Really interesting meditations on the educational system here. With only a few, notable exceptions, my classes generally taught me to succeed within a set of clearly-defined boundaries. Learning to check boxes, however, did nothing to prepare me for the messiness of life. I wouldn't say that I regret having gone to school for as long as I did, but I would've appreciated a more nuanced understanding that life after college wouldn't be just another series of ladders to ascend.

A well written, and interesting outline on what school is, is not, and what maybe it could be. Plus, I like the anecdotes by students simply doing what they think is best for them.

Ironically, I myself found that degrees like my research based degrees where we were given almost "ultimate" freedom of exploring a topic in-depth (mainly via learning solid scientific and research principles first; and also always having a real-world application and thought process), have given me the best possible education. Mainly, because it made me day by day more interested in the various areas I needed to learn about.
