"I always thought I’d be a “home” person who loves stability, but I actually don’t. I love the idea of exploring new places and building homes across the world, and I feel super lucky to do this."
I really resonate with this journey.
Two years of travel. Twelve countries. Twenty cities.
Somewhere along the way, home stopped being a place.
It became the people I’m with — my family.
And still… I’m looking forward to putting down roots in Leiden next month.
Paul, this interview with Holly hits on a tension rarely discussed in creative circles: the way 'mental energy' is a finite resource that directly affects physical output. Mental directive always commands the physical, never the opposite as the great Galamian would always espouse.
As a conservatory trained violinist and a father, I’ve found that the 'scaffolding' of my craft—the physical pincer of the instrument and the athletic dexterity of many micro and macro muscles—requires the same 'switching off' of the desk-brain that Holly describes. We often treat the arts as purely intellectual, but the athletic nature of violin virtuosity requires a body that has negotiated its own limits.
Her shift to Hyrox is a great reminder that the 'Human Signature' in any work only appears when we stop 'cramming in one more email' and actually inhabit the physical siege of the practice.
Great read. I recently quit my job and bought a one way ticket to travel, heal, do yoga, and follow curiosity. Love to hear one dedicated focus for their pursuits. Rooting for Holly and Angelo!

Best of luck to her on the Elite 15 journey.
