Awesome reflection my man. Gives me lots of food for thought as Claire and I started thinking about family and how to blend that into our own little pathless paths. Wishing you and Angie a healthy and happy birth!
> We have no parental leave policy which is great because we don’t have to return to anyone else’s world. We can take things slow, pay attention, learn, and see what feels right on our schedule
💯 also to supporting her
Record some audio messages for her to hear when she is of age
Almost two years ago, I wrote this advice column to a reader whose wife was in the third trimester too. I’m guessing you’ve got most of it covered, although the last part is unique given my experience with my daughter and I think it’s worth checking out if you have a few minutes: https://www.lyle.blog/p/hey-lyle-letter-001
So precious to capture these special moments in time just before the great unknown. 🥹 You and Angie will do great and your support around the world is endless! ✨
Congratulations to your family. The true pathless path is about to begin. As a parent to a young boy, now 1.5 years, it’s amazing to reflect on all that’s changed and meanwhile all that’s stayed the same in my life.
One remarkable thing about bringing a new child into the world is seeing how celebration of life is nearly a universal human trait. So many friends, neighbors, strangers step in to help out in big and small ways. It’s been an expansive journey.
We are so excited for you and Angie!! You will make excellent parents. Many people will give you advice on what to do, what not to do, etc. Thank them for the advice and do what you and Angie feel is best. People are just happy for your new and exciting journey ahead of you. We are not religious people in the traditional sense, but something that I discovered after having our two boys was that the process of procreation is, in fact, quite miraculous! The miracle of conception, pregnancy and birth is something that not everyone gets the privilege to experience and we feel so fortunate that we are parents forever! Enjoy every moment!❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed this moving share about your relationship, excitement and joy around the birth of your own family. I read exactly one of your pieces before I signed up, and it was called Reinvention. I knew everything I needed to know about your way of thinking to commit as a reader. As a father of 3 kids, 2 of whom are now living on their own, I can say that your reinventing skills and context are going to come in very handy, and clearly you've intentionally set yourself up for the best possible start for dad-hood. Well done, and lucky kid.
Such a massive change on the way but it will be amazing. Just be ready for a few hard months before you start to get something back. They were the toughest.
But we’re here with you. Reach out if you need any support!
That last bit brought a tear to my eye! Beyond happy for you, Angie, and baby girl, and wishing you all the best! Can't wait to meet her :)
