Greetings from Lanyu, a beautiful aboriginal Taiwanese island in the south of the country. I didn't do a lot of reading this week so enjoy this podcast-filled weekly reads.

#1 Rationally Speaking: A fun and thought-provoking lecture from Julia Galef as part of the Long Now Foundation. Where she puts forth the dichotomy of the soldier and the scout. The scout is the one constantly searching for new information and wants to change their mind. Are you a scout or a soldier?
#2 Podcast: I recorded a podcast with Dr. Laura Gallaher, who worked with NASA after the Challenger explosion, used the phrase "that's what she said" (hey office fans!) in her dissertation title and is building a leadership coaching business while traveling the world with Remote Year.
#3 On Trauma & Our Modern Predicament: This podcast from Dr. Paul Conti and Dr. Peter Attia was filled with vulnerability and reflections on trauma and the modern condition. Dr. Attia is a former McKinsey consultant, super-athlete and Doctor. This will resonate with anyone who struggles with the constant need to "strive."
#4 Cruelty: In another podcast episode I listened to this week of Paul Bloom and Russ Roberts on EconTalk, they referenced this New Yorker piece while talking about social media titled "The Root Of All Cruelty" that challenges the assumption that cruelty comes solely from dehumanizing others. Bloom argues: "The truth may be harder to accept: that our best and our worst tendencies arise precisely from seeing others as human."
#5 Bike Angels: A story about a "bike angel" who spends his time returning bikes to different stations in the bike share program in New York. Inspired by this, I spent a few days this past summer riding bikes to different stations (they give you "bike angel" points, fittingly) and found it was rather fun.
