#1 Russian Mob: A Russion Vory, "swore an oath to lead a “thieves’ life,” a code of honor requiring them to help other vory, devote their lives to crime, never work legitimately, and always tell the truth to another vor." The mob is still operating, in 2018.
#2 Post-Truth: While it seems to be the cool thing to do to make fun of Yuval Harari, his article on humans always being "post-truth" is worth reading. He concludes: "instead of accepting fake news as the norm, we should recognise it is a far more difficult problem than we tend to assume, and we should strive even harder to distinguish reality from fiction."
#3 Fear Setting: I've been suggesting this article and/or TED Talk to many people on defining your fears. People are very good at identifying their fears, but not very good at identifying the potential upsides to doing something or ways they might be able to mitigate said fears.
#4 100-year life: Japan has embraced the 100-year life as a national goal and is aligning its country around a much older population (deaths have recently surpassed births in the last ten years). It does appear that some of the motive comes from enabling people to work longer lives ("the idea of an army of healthy elderly citizens who actively want to work as a blessing.")
#5 A Quote: From David Whyte's "Clear Mind, Wild Heart":
“One of the diagnostic features that you’re doing something unique something that is true to the complexion of your character. Other people should not understand entirely what you are doing. And if they do understand completely the direction in which you’re going you might want to think about it actually and you might want think that perhaps it is t the right direction after all. Because It’s too available, it’s too common, it’s too much a life that anyone could leave.”
