Greetings from Boston. Thank you to Kyrie and Jonny for supporting Boundless through Patreon! You Rock.
#1 Outrage: Russ Roberts, the host of one of the best and first podcasts I discovered, has written a thoughtful essay on how outrage is taking over our national discussions: "To get more views, you need to be a little bit louder in favor of the home team and a little less nuanced."
#2 Digital Creations: A friend suggested this talk from Frank Chimero on the "long, hard stupid way" about the slow process of creation and how to bring a little more magic back into creation.
#3 Yale's Happiness Class: Yale has a 20 lecture class about how to be happy and we can just read this article to learn all of the secrets. Here is some insight about money:
"When people making $30,000 a year are asked what kind of annual salary it would take to make them truly happy, the average answer is $50,000. When you ask the same question of people making $100,000 a year, you’d expect them to say, “I’m double-happy! I make twice the happiness threshold!” Instead, what they actually say, on average, is that if they made $250,000 a year, then they’d be truly happy."
#4 Mobster Hockey: Entertaining longread about a mobster who bought his son a minor league hockey team as he was graduating college.
#5 Books: A couple friends have recommended David Whyte's books to me and I finally started "The Three Marriages" as someone gifted me the book. I highly recommend Whyte. He has a fascinating style of weaving historical examples, personal reflection and poetry together to argue for how to re-think our work, relationships and self. I'll leave you with this strong point of view on work:
"Concentrating on paying the bills will only get that young man a job and keep the lights on, but following that other light he knows well and has known well all his life will create a vocation that will embolden him to sacrifices that will pay for everything that is necessary."
