I write this from beautiful Portland, where I have been attending the World Domination Summit, which is a collection of people living unconventional lives - I've met such incredible people spreading kindness and creativity around the world.
#1 Meaning Making & Death At Work: I recently wrote a quite lengthy article questioning our modern conception of work. Someone challenged me to break it up into smaller pieces. Here is a smaller, more polished, piece that tries to argue that embracing the idea of "meaningful work" only helps with the story of a small number of people like myself while undermining meaning for many more.
#2 Untranslatable Words: While writing the above-mentioned article, I came across the word "Karoshi" - meaning death from overwork. There is a similar word in Korean and Chinese but not in English. Through a recommendation, I found the following short article on "11 Untranslatable Words From Other Cultures" with beautiful images that led to a book deal and the best outcome possible (being profiled by the incredible Maria Popova in Brain Pickings). My favorite is the beautifully simple Culaccino - "The mark left on a table by a cold glass"
#3 Happiness: I was moved by this silent four-minute film on happiness. It makes me question what I am really chasing and if our modern conception of "I'll be happy when..." is achievable.

#4 Future of the Commons: An argument that the real future use case of blockchains is its ability to scale governance, helping to solve problems like "tragedy of the commons." -
"Just like a stock market was a financial platform for creating the scalable corporation, blockchains can be governance platforms for enabling the scalable commons."
#5 Time: At this conference, someone made the point that "time management" is a fallacy, since time cannot be managed. This article from Andrew Taggart adds a little more nuance and is well worth the read (if you have the time).
