In the last episode I talked with David Vaucher, who went sem-viral after posting an article titled "I'm 33, and I'm Ending My Career to Start My Life" - he is at the start of his self employment journey, but it was a fun conversation about what really matters.

Boundless

In reflecting on 2017, I realized that I was working on a number of things but they all had different names, locations etc...  I tried to think about what I was really trying to do and when I launched the podcast, the word "Boundless" was something that really stuck with me.  So I decided to position everything I am doing under the umbrella of Boundless.  I am thinking of it in terms of both an idea and a platform.  The idea that we are capable of more than we believe and a platform where my mission is to help people navigate the future of work and help them do work that matters. 

I am creating a number of tools and resources that people can use, so stay tuned for that.  It's going to be an exciting year...

"Gift Economy"

Someone recently shared the idea of a "gift economy" with me in which people support each other for the value they bring into the world.  This really resonated with me.  We have probably gone too far in the direction of only valuing what an employer will pay you for.  This leaves many people underpaid, stuck or scared to take the leap to do what matters to them on their own.  I have been inspired by models like Patreon and other efforts from companies that are thinking about how to support creators (instead of the digital platforms consuming all the benefits - ahem Facebook).  I believe the future of work will require more people to pursue work outside the confines of traditional employment (in fact the research already shows this, with all job growth from 2005-2015 happening only in the "alternative work arrangements" category).
